I always wonder why people are not more organised.....
The last couple of weeks have been VERY busy. It is the start of my busiest season. Everyone wants sandal ready feel and to have all their waxing done. And who can blame them?!
So it always amazes me that people leave the booking of "important" appointments till the last minute.
I have had people wanting to book appointment for prom two days in advance and even on the day of! I think to myself "Wow!? Is this prom a surprise?" They are of course very disappointed (sometimes angry) when I am already booked and cannot accommodate them.
Today I had a lady try to book an appointment for next Thursday morning (today is Wednesday so she is looking at next week) she only wants that day at a specific time. I offer her later in the day on Thursday...
Her: "No, that won't work. The rehearsal dinner is that night at 5:00."
Me: "Oh, this is for a wedding?"
Her: "Yes! Can you do anything?"
Me: "Well, I already have appointments booked for Thursday morning, I have time around 11:00 on the Wednesday."
Her: "Nothing earlier?"
Me: "No, sorry. I am booked until 11:00"
Her: "Oh. What about Thursday?"
(Really? Did we not just go over this)
Me: "No, sorry. Thursday I only have the evening available"
Her: "Fine. Lets do 11:00 on the Wednesday. I can always cancel"
Great! Bets on if she cancels and totally F's my day?
The whole time I wanted to say "Oh, a wedding! Did you just find out about it?" " No?! Really?! Well then why didn't you book earlier to make sure you had an appointment?"
It also always seem to be the people who don't work who are the "busiest" what the heck do they do all day? Don't get mad at me because you can't organise your life and book your appointments in advance. These people probably also assume that they can get in to see their hairdresser tomorrow or their doctor today.
Oh well.... such is life in the service world.

Think before you speak
Sometimes I wonder about people. Well, actually I wonder about people a lot! There are a lot of strange people out there.
Last week I had an older man in for a treatment. He seems nice enough. And then it begins....
Him: "Do you do that thing where you paint the ladies nails?"
Me: "Yes. Does your wife get her nails painted?"
Him: "Oh, no! My wife doesn't even wear make up. I don't think women should wear make up. My mom didn't wear make up and neither did my grandma."
Me: " Oh..."
Him: "I don't even think that women should have their ears pierced. I don't understand why anyone would want to put hole anywhere on their body. Men either."
Me: "Oh..."
Him: "I don't think that people should have tattoos either. It use to be in our work handbook that you don't hire anyone with tattoos."
Me: "Well, I guess you can't really do that anymore. Huh?"
Him: "Well, not officially. We just give them another reason."
Of course the whole time I am thinking to myself 'oh dear! seriously?' I myself wear make up every. single. day. I have multiple piercings and many LARGE tattoos (I usually keep them covered at work. Especially in the winter)
He left and I thought "Wow! I wonder if his granddaughters know this is how he feels?"
Oh well.... on to the next....

How to be the boss of your boss....
I run the show. I just need that to be known.
I have demands put on me daily by my boss (who is the spa owner). I am so sick of it. I do my best and go beyond every. single. day.
I come in to work after being off for the weekend and my boss does nothing. Things cannot always wait for me to get to work on Tuesday. People need answers. They know that she works on Mondays but she never responds to email, though how could you would would need to check the email to be able to respond to them, she never checks the voicemail. This is getting ridiculous! I am at my wits end!
I know that I don't get paid enough but feel that I can't ask for a raise because we are not always that busy, so I feel that there is probably not enough extra money to give me a raise.
Some days I feel more like a personal assistant than a manager. I should not be calling to activate her visa!!!
For someone who is a business owner, and has been for over 15 years, her personal skills are rather lacking. I know that she think that she sounds professional when speaking to others but in reality she sounds like a B*%$h! She has lost more that one client because of this.
How do I become my bosses boss and tell her that she needs to make some major changes?
I am tired.

Good Morning Sunshine....
Wow, what a way to start the day!
It is only 10:15a.m. and I feel like I need a drink.
The "mishaps" with my bookings continue. Today I had an appointment that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes booked in only 45 minutes. Now I know that I am amazing but I'm not that amazing!
I had to have my appointment come in early so that I could accommodate her. This also meant that I had to come in early as well. On a Saturday. Booooo.
I got to work nice and early. Got everything set up. No problem.
Then I checked the work email. There is an email from a notorious canceller cancelling her massage appointment for today at 11:00. She also said that she "hoped that we would be able to fill the spot", the time on the email..... 11:30p.m. That sure doesn't give me much time to find someone to fill that precious massage appointment. Oh ya, and she only booked this appointment yesterday afternoon. Can you say flake??
I was then told that we have no water!!! How am supposed to do a pedicure with no water?!
THEN.... the appointment who I needed to come in early was late! So I really only had 45 minutes to do a full pedicure and a bikini wax!
I really am Wonder Woman! I did it! I am awesome!
But now I need a drink.
AND we have confirmed the person who is incorrectly booking my appointments!
If I can't have a whisky I am going to go have a coffee instead!
*sigh*

Am I Upsetting You?
A couple of months ago I started seeing a Naturopath. And I think that because by body is doing a little bit of detoxifying I have been breaking out like crazy!
Some people believe that being honest is saying whatever they are feeling with no concern for the people they are speaking to.
I had a client say to me.... "What have you been doing differently lately? Because your complexion isn't very good these days"
WOW!!! Can you believe that someone actually said that to me? As if I was completely unaware that I was breaking out!
So I calmly told her that I hadn't really changed anything but had started seeing a Naturopath and I think I was detoxing.
I then was given a lecture about Naturopaths and how they treat you without any real evidence and are all con artists.
My Naturopath is absolutely wonderful!! She has helped be so much! She does testing to back up pretty much everything that she does!
My client then went on to say "Am I upsetting you?" (as I had tears starting to form in my eyes. Of course you are you horrible person!!)
ARGH!!

Some people are just amazing
It is so true.
For all the crazy, and dare I say stupid people out there, there are some pretty darn amazing people too.
I am lucky enough to have some amazing people as clients.
People who can't believe that I have lived on a "farm" for the last 10 years and do not own rubber boots. So what do they do? "You know what? I have an extra pair of rubber boots. I'll drop them off for you" Amazing!
People who know that I am a knitter and imform me of a new yarn store in town. Amazing!
People who know that I am an avid reader and history buff and lend me fantastic books. Amazing!
People who ask "how are you?" and actually care. Super Amazing!
For all of my bitching about people, I am pretty lucky. I could write a book about the fantastic and fascinating people who come in to see me. People who over the years have become more than clients, they have become friends.

Some days are totally worth it
Well the title sums it up.
Some days really are worth it.
When someone ...
... tells you that you made their day.
...drops of an article that they thought you might find interesting.
...randomly gives you a cupcake. (those are up there on the list)
...asks for your advice and actually want to know what you think/advise.
...give you a BIG hung in thanks.
...can't believe the difference you made in their skin/eyebrows/feet.
...remembers that it is your birthday without you mentioning it (this also ranks high, sadly my birthday often gets passed by) this combined with the cupcake is tops ;)
...asks how you are because they are actually interested.
...did I mention hugs? Those are awesome!
That's all.
A good day today (though it is not my birthday....)
